We Fought A Good Fight ~ Eguavoen

|By Boluwaji Ogunmola|

Interim Super Eagles head coach Augustine Eguavoen has said his team didn’t deserve to lose against the Cartage Eagles of Tunisia in their 2021 Africa Cup of Nations round of 16 encounter played in Garoua, Cameroon on Sunday.

The Super Eagles crashed out of the continental showpiece on Sunday after a 0-1 loss to North African heavyweight Tunisia.

The North Africans will take on the Stallions of Burkina Faso on the same Stade Roumde Adjia pitch in Garoua following their qualification into the quarter-finals.

The tactician, while speaking at the post-match press conference, blamed poor officiating for his team’s ouster from the competition.

“We tried to come back after the Tunisia goal, and we chased the game. But then we got a red card.

“It was clear that the officiating wasn’t fair,” Eguavoen said.

The tactician however said that he had told the players to quickly put the disappointing defeat behind them and face the next assignment in March.

”I have told the players to pick up and ensure they qualify Nigeria for the World Cup,” the Nigerian coach said.

The Super Eagles will now turn their attention to the 2022 FIFA World Cup African Zone playoffs in March against rivals Ghana.
